VIRTUAL: Story Hour with Lyla "Sugar" Harrod: Trailblazing Sobriety and Advocacy

  • Sober Outdoors Virtually (map)

Join us for an inspiring Sober Outdoors Story Hour featuring Lyla “Sugar” Harrod, a sober, queer transgender woman who has carved her path in both the hiking world and the fight for equality. With over 13,000 miles of long-distance hiking experience, Lyla is not only an accomplished adventurer but also a trailblazer in every sense of the word.

Lyla made history as the first transgender woman to complete the Triple Crown of long-distance hiking, a remarkable achievement that speaks to her resilience and determination. She has also set Fastest Known Times (FKTs), including the women’s unsupported FKT of New Hampshire’s 48 4,000-footers.

Beyond her hiking accomplishments, Lyla is a dedicated advocate for trans rights and the founder of Trail QTs, a mentoring program that supports queer and transgender first-time thru-hikers. Her efforts within the hiking community and beyond continue to break barriers and create a more inclusive outdoor space for everyone.

During this Story Hour, Lyla will share her incredible journey of adventure, sobriety, and advocacy, offering insights into her life on the trail and the powerful ways she combines her passions to inspire change.

Stick around after Lyla’s story for a live Q&A session, where you’ll have the chance to ask questions and connect directly with this trailblazing adventurer.
